Students earn Prepared status through A-G completion with a qualifying exam score, dual enrollment at a California Community College, AP or IB credit, CTE pathway completion with an industry certification, or AB 288 dual enrollment CTE courses. Alternative education students can earn Career Prepared status through CTE and dual enrollment pathways.

A-G requirements are the 15 college-preparatory courses California students must complete to be eligible for admission to the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems. The seven subject areas are: History/Social Science (A), English (B), Mathematics (C), Laboratory Science (D), Language Other Than English (E), Visual and Performing Arts (F), and College-Preparatory Elective (G). Districts are required to connect students to their accounts.
